Gas meters have to be highly accurate, not only during calibration or verification, but also when used in the field. This requires expert knowledge about their behaviour under different operating conditions.
At the high-pressure test facility operated by E.ON Ruhrgas at Lintorf near Duisburg, meters used for large gas flows at high pressures can be tested under both ideal and disturbed upstream flow conditions. The specialists at the facility are able to create, under near-field conditions, all circumstances that can occur during flow meter operation and affect metering accuracy.
The test facility is used to examine a range of factors including flow perturbations such as swirl, disturbed velocity profiles and pressure and speed pulsations. The measured data serve to
Thanks to its configuration and the equipment installed, the test facility offers a high flexibility, allowing a broad range of tests and investigations to be carried out. It is operated by highly specialised engineers and technicians. The services available at Lintorf are not just used by E.ON Ruhrgas, but are also made available to other companies, including meter manufacturers wanting to test their meters before official verification, or energy utilities and industrial companies wishing to have special measurement problems investigated.
